Intro:
Fill a window with glittery suncatchers for Earth Day! A wonderful reminder to care for
our planet by recycling, reducing trash and reusing materials.

Set Up ideas:
For younger children or when you have limited activity time, prepare precut heart tops
and points as well as precut circles of crystal clear covers in advance.

Let’s Get Started:
For these gorgeous suncatchers that remind us to love the Earth, you'll need the following
materials: crystal clear cover circles, scissors, hole punch, paper plates, blue glitter, green
glitter, yarn/string for hanging and red construction paper.

Tips and Tricks:
Cut another plate with a hole and affix to the front side of the plate with the glitter inside.
It'll hide the edges of the crystal clear cover and make an easier surface to write on.

Follow up Activity:
Kids can take the suncatcher home to remind them and their families to recycle and take
care of the Earth.

What can we do every day to help recycle, reduce garbage or reuse items to avoid
waste? How does too much trash hurt the planet? What other things can we do to help
the Earth?

Steps:

  1. Cut the hole out of the middle of a paper plate and affix a circle of crystal clear cover to the
back side of the paper plate, keeping the exposed glue side facing up.
  2. Scatter blue and green glitter over the adhesive portion to resemble the earth. Shake off
the excess glitter and then place another piece of clear cover glue side down over the
    glitter.
  3. Affix the heart top and tip to the backside of the plate using glue or tape, and then write a
    message along the border.
  4. Add a hanging string of yarn on top using either tape on the back side or by punching a
hole on top and stringing yarn through.
