An Activity for Preschoolers:
Celebrate spring while learning about plant science!
Before You Begin:
Gather the following materials: tissue paper, pipe cleaners, flowerpots, collage materials, markers, paint and any other items desired for decorating the flowerpots.
Activity Goals:
To create a process art project celebrating spring while developing fine motor skills and color recognition.
Furthermore:
Encourage children to be creative with their color choices, flower styling and flowerpot decorating.
Steps:
- Create flowers by folding up to 3 pieces of tissue paper into 1″ accordion folds. If you so
choose, you may cut the ends in half-circles to create petals. - Wrap a pipe cleaner around the center of the folded tissue, leaving a stem. Fluff out the
tissue paper like a flower. - Decorate the flowerpot using paint, gems, crayons, glitter or any other materials desired.
- Fill the flowerpot with rice, stones or sand so that the flowers can stand upright.
