Intro
Many grandparents value their jewelry and watches because of their inherent value and
the memories they inspire. Create a little bowl made specially for them to hold these
items. We're going to use air-dry foam and putty along with our reusable inflatable forms
to make these keepsakes.

Set Up Ideas
Air-dry clay will need to set overnight, or for at least a few hours. Set up a designated area to let the items dry where they won't be disturbed.

Let’s Get Started
To create these unique keepsakes, you'll need to gather the following materials: reusable
inflatable forms, air-dry foam, air-dry putty and any decorative materials desired such as
paint, markers and collage materials.

Tips and Tricks
If the bowl won't stay up straight, glue a wood round to the bottom to add stability.

Follow up Activity
Create your own piece of jewelry to give as a gift! Use pipe cleaners or yarn to create a
bracelet and add beads and gems for a piece they'll treasure.

Does your grandma and grandpa wear a watch? Do they take their jewelry off at night?
Why do you think they do, if so? Do you have anything that you treasure that you want
to keep safe like grandma and grandpa does with their rings and watches?

Steps:

  1. Choose an inflatable form to use for your bowl shape. Our inflatable shapes include balls,
stars and hearts. Inflate the form and insert the plug to keep the shape inflated.
  2. Applying air-dry foam or putty modeling material to half of the form to create a bowl
shape. Make the edges straight and smooth, unless ragged is your desired look.
  3. Leave the air-dry material on top of the form so that the wet material won’t flatten out.
Allow to dry for several hours or overnight.
  4. Once the putty or foam is dry, peel it from the form. Then, deflate the form and decorate
your bowl as desired with markers, paint and collage materials.
