An Activity for Preschoolers:
Make stunning resist creations using simple materials.

Before You Begin:
This activity is so simple, only a few supplies are needed. Make sure you have plenty of
color choices for crayons and watercolors. Pre-fill paint cups and lay out brushes and
paper.

Activity Goals:
Explore color mixing.
Explore cause and effe ct.
Develop fine motor skills .
Practice creating negative space.

Furthermore:
This activity works well for abstract art too. Using only a white crayon really makes the
paint colors pop!

Steps:

  1. Use crayons to draw a picture, shape or patterns on plain paper
  2. With paint brush, paint watercolor directly over the crayon art
  3. Watercolors will blend where they touch, but will resist the crayon art creating a beautiful effect!
