Intro:

This holiday, put your creativity on full display with a pom-pom wreath! Soft, fuzzy poms
are a childhood favorite. This activity lets children create a design of their own for a
uniquely festive holiday wreath perfect for hanging at home or in the classroom.

Set Up Ideas:
Pom-poms come in all colors and sizes. We even carry glittery poms and poms with
rainbow stripes! Provide a wide assortment of pom-poms for children to express their
creativity.

Let’s Get Started:
To make these festive, fuzzy wreaths, all you'll need to gather are paper plates, scissors,
yarn, glue and—of course—lots of colorful pom-poms! Children may work from a shared
assortment of pom-poms to practice sharing and helping each other find the colors they
want.

Tips and Tricks:
Create a wild design with a varied assortment of colors or stick to just a few colors to
create a theme. Let the children express their creativity through their choice of pompoms.

Follow up Activity:
Make a miniature wreath by cutting a small circle from construction paper, just a few
inches in diameter with a rim wide enough for a single pom. Glue poms all around and
add yarn for hanging your mini wreath ornament.

Holiday decorations are often very personal and unique to each family. Ask the children
about what holidays their family likes to decorate for and celebrate. What kind of
decorations do they use? What are their celebrations like? Do they share the holidays
with family members?

Steps:

  1. Cut the center out of a paper plate, leaving a few inches of the paper plate rim remaining.
  2. Add a liberal amount of glue all around the rim and place pom-poms all over until it is
fully covered. Allow the glue to dry.
  3. Once the glue is dry, use a one-hole punch to cut a single hole near the edge of the rim.
  4. Thread a long string of yarn through the hole and tie a loop so that you can hang your
    festive new pom-pom wreath.
