An Activity for Preschoolers:
Children can create a great takehome
craft with these fun corn and
pumpkin shapes!

Before You Begin:
Place pony beads in bowls and set
out the rest of the supplies.

Activity Goals:
Develop fine motor skills
Create a festive autumn d ecoration
Experiment with color patterning.

Furthermore:
Talk about different kinds of corn
and their uses. Perhaps you could
bring in some dried ears of different kinds of corn to show the children.

Steps:

  1. For pumpkins, take eight brown pipe cleaners and bunch them together. Fold the bunch
    in half and twist once. Spread the “legs” out evenly.
  2. String the “legs” with orange pony beads, leaving about an inch at each end.
  3. Twist the ends together to form a stem and attach a curled green pipe cleaner around the
    stem for a vine.
  4. For corn, bunch eight brown or yellow pipe cleaners together. Fold the bunch in half and
    twist once. Spread the “legs” out evenly.
  5. String the “legs” with white, orange, and/or yellow pony beads, leaving about an inch at
    each end.
  6. Twist ends together.
